About this site
Free, plain-language information about California workers' compensation — written for the people the system is supposed to serve.
Who runs it
KnowYourRightsAtWork.org is maintained by Clayton J. Perry, a California attorney and State Bar certified specialist in workers' compensation law, through his practice The Clayton Perry Law Office for Injured Workers, APC. The practice represents injured workers only — never insurance companies, never employers — and is a member of the California Applicants' Attorneys Association.
Why it's free
Because the information asymmetry is the problem. Every claim has a professional adjuster on the other side who handles hundreds of cases a year; most injured workers go through the system exactly once, in pain, often in a second language. Nothing on this site is secret — it's all in the Labor Code and the regulations. It's just written for lawyers. This site translates it.
Yes, the firm also takes cases — that's here, and we're upfront about it. But most visitors don't need a lawyer; they need to know what form to ask for, what deadline they're on, and what the insurance company already knows. That part should be free.
How the legal information is verified
Every legal statement on this site cites the actual statute or regulation, and every citation is checked against the official text before publishing — not written from memory, and not generated by an AI and left unchecked. When the law changes, pages get updated or taken down. If you find something outdated or wrong, please tell us — that's a favor to the next worker who reads it.
What this site will never do
- Sell or share your information
- Tell you what to do in your specific case without a lawyer actually reviewing it
- Pretend general information is a substitute for representation when your claim is in trouble
